Writers' Workshop Update

How are those Tiny Topic Notebooks doing?  Please have your child write down at least one tiny topic from this weekend.  We are focusing on writing about "small moments".  One activity that we did was to write down five ideas about their topic, one idea on a single piece of paper to make a packet of five pages.  Then we went back and added the details for each idea on its paper.  We looked at Owl Moon by Jane Yolen and The Leaving Morning by Angela Johnson as mentor texts.  These "master authors" do a great job adding detail to their writing.  They also show how they picked a small important moment in their lives to write about.
