Measuring and Graphing

We have started our next unit in math on measuring and graphing.  We will learn the difference between centimeters, inches, meters, and feet and determine when to use each unit of measurement.  The students will use centimeter cubes, inch tiles, rulers, and meter sticks to measure.  We will organize the information that we get from measuring by creating bar graphs, line plots, and pictographs.

At home you can help by asking questions such as,
"Which unit of measurement would you use to measure a pencil?"
"Can you find something in the room that is about 5 inches long?"
"Would you need more centimeters or inches to measure your toothbrush?  Why?"

If you would like a ruler for home so that you can practice, please let me know and I will send one home.

Here are some web sites that I found that can be used to practice making and interpreting graphs.

Please let me know if you have any questions!
