Show, Don't Tell

In Writers' Workshop today we worked on showing, not telling.  Instead of "telling" a simple sentence, we worked on using details and descriptions to "show" instead.

An example:

Tell:  It was cold.

Show:

My teeth were chattering, and my fingers were starting to go numb as I tried to zip my coat all the way up to my chin.  Ice crystals were glimmering in the morning sun on the branches of the trees by my driveway.  “Brrrrr”, I said as I jumped up and down to try to get warm. “I hope the bus gets here before I freeze to death!”

Here are some pictures of us working on "showing" not "telling".
